Enabling consumer information rights on chemicals in articles by IT-tools

Article 33 REACH stipulates that suppliers of articles containing substances of very high concern (SVHC) in a concentration above 0.1% (w/w) must provide this information to their customers, as well as information to allow the safe use of the article. It also determines the consumer’s right to request and obtain this information from a supplier.

LIST’s Environmental Research and Innovation (ERIN) and IT for Innovative Services (ITIS) departments are partners in the EU LIFE project AskREACH around Article 33 REACH.  The project aims to raise consumer and supplier awareness on substances of very high concern (SVHC) in articles.

The objectives of the LIFE AskREACH project include:

  • Improving the information flow on SVHC between suppliers and consumers;
  • Helping suppliers to comply with their REACH obligations;
  • Supporting communication on SVHC in articles along the supply chain.

During the project, a database which can be populated with information on SVHC in articles by article suppliers will be developed. The database will be connected to a smartphone application, which consumers will use to obtain information on SVHC in articles. Suppliers will also be assisted with another IT-tool to facilitate communication in their supply chain.
