Feedback from the annual REACH & CLP conference

On the 8th of December 2016 the 10th edition of the "Conference & Networking Lunch: Implementation of REACH&CLP regulations and future challenges" was held in the Chamber of Commerce. The event was organized by the REACH&CLP Helpdesk Luxembourg with the support of the FEDIL-Business Federation Luxembourg, the Enterprise Europe Network, the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Infrastructure and the Ministry of the Economy within the framework of the European SME Week.

This new edition welcomed nearly 60 participants who were able to discuss with the team of the REACH&CLP Helpdesk Luxembourg, the speakers as well as other participants the topic of REACH & CLP during a networking lunch.

The conference started with an update on the development of the different processes of REACH and CLP in 2016 and provided an outlook for 2017.  This was followed by a presentation given by a member of ECHA’s Risk Assessment Committee (RAC) who informed on the key role this committee plays for the harmonised classification and labelling under CLP, and on the authorisation of substances of very high concern and restrictions under REACH.

The second part of the conference was largely dedicated to the upcoming REACH registration deadline scheduled for 2018, a current key topic for many companies. With regard to this topic, a presentation was given to provide some advice to companies in order to realise their registration dossier. This was followed by a second presentation, this time, specifically focused on the role of importers, with a reminder of their obligations under REACH and the registration procedure.
