Inspections on SDSs will run in 2023

The operational phase of the Enforcement Forum REF-11 project will start in 2023.

The main objective of the REF-11 project is to assess whether duty holders have updated and provided the safety data sheets (SDS) according to the new requirements of Annex II of REACH Regulation amended by Regulation (EU) 2020/878

In the framework of this Forum project, in Luxembourg, the Environmental Administration (AEV) will carry out inspections, in addition to check compliance of SDS in general, to assess whether duty-holders have updated the SDS according to the new requirements of Annex II.

In addition, other sections and aspects of the SDS, which are considered challenging for SDS suppliers as reported in earlier REF projects will be included: provision of exposure scenarios (Art. 31.7), updating of SDSs and supplying them to former recipients (Art. 31.9), provision of classification according to CLP regulation in SDS, information on occupational exposure limit values (OELs) and personal protection equipment (PPE) in SDS.

In general, the following outcomes for the project are expected:

  • Improved quality of the information in the SDS in the supply chain; and
  • Increased awareness of the new requirements of Annex II.

The results will be reported in 2024.
