Nonylphenol and its ethoxylates restricted in textiles

The restriction on nonyphenol and its ethoxylates started to apply on 3 February 2021 and aims to reduce their emissions to the environment. When clothing and other textile articles containing these chemicals are washed, their residues are released into the environment through wastewater. NPEs are toxic to animals and plants living in our surface waters.

The restriction will prevent 15 tonnes of NPEs from being released each year to surface waters and will reduce pressure on biodiversity.
