An amendment of the Annex XVII REACH (Regulation (EU) 2025/1090) has recently been published in the Official Journal. The amendment concerns a restriction on N,N-dimethylacetamide (DMAC) and 1-ethylpyrrolidin-2-one (NEP) which are used among others as aprotic solvents in the production of agrochemicals, pharmaceuticals and cleaning products.

These restrictions are added as entries n° 80 (DMAC) and n°81 (NEP) to the restriction list in Annex XVII of REACH.

The restrictions will start applying on the 23 December 2026.

There is one specific exemption for the use of DMAC in the production of synthetic fibres which will start to apply on the 23 June 2029.
