An amendment of the Annex XVII REACH (Regulation (EU) 2025/1988) has recently been published in the Official Journal. The amendment concerns a restriction on PFAS in firefighting foams.

This restriction is added as entry n° 82 to the restriction list in Annex XVII of REACH.

The new restriction sets a new concentration limit to all PFAS in firefighting foams. This limit will be valid for all PFAS that are not already restricted by the POP regulation (Regulation (EU) 2019/1021) or another entry in annex XVII of REACH. 

Until 2035, several transition periods are set, depending on the specific use.

The restriction will start applying on the 23 October 2025.
