The new concentration limit of eight polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in rubber granules and mulches is now applying since 10 August 2022.

The concentration limit of these eight PAHs has been reduced to 20 mg/kg and this lower limit will ensure the safety of people - especially children - playing on these fields. The restriction will not affect existing fields immediately but will ensure that any infill material used for refilling the fields is below the new limit.

As reminder, the restriction was proposed by The Netherlands in July 2018 and adopted by the European Commission in July 2021.
