Commission adopts restriction on hazardous chemicals in tattoo inks

The European Commission adopts restriction on hazardous chemicals in tattoo inks and takes important step to protect EU citizens' health from hazardous chemicals in tattoo inks and permanent make-up.

More than 4 000 chemicals used in these inks will be restricted in the EU/EEA as of early 2022. The regulation includes a 12-month transition period from the entry into force for the majority of substances and a 24-month transition period for pigments green 7 and blue 15.

This action may avoid over 1 000 cases of chronic allergic reactions every year. Other skin reactions and serious effects are also likely to decrease.
